The Digging Patch
This was a corner of my childhood Garden. Fenced off from the
rest of the yard, this was where we children were allowed to dig
to our hearts' content. I'm not sure what prompted our parents
to provide this space for us - perhaps it was a protection for
the plants that grew elsewhere. One day I'll ask !
It wasn't as if stuff actually grew here. It was dirt. Good dirt.
Dirt we could made mud pies out of. Dirt we could dig tunnels
in. Dirt we could colour our clothes with. It was good. I liked
The Digging Patch. Although it never did teach me to grow plants,
it taught me that Dirt doesn't hurt.
